Modified Natural Cycle Fertility Treatment Comparable to Hormone Replacement Therapy for Women Over 40

A new study has found that modified natural cycle embryo transfer is a viable alternative to hormone replacement therapy for women over 40, with comparable live birth rates and a lower risk of miscarriage.

A recent study published in the journal Fertility and Sterility has shed light on the effectiveness of modified natural cycle embryo transfer (mNC-ET) in women over 40 years old.

The study, conducted by a team of researchers from the IVIRMA Global Research Alliance, analyzed data from 26,039 single embryo transfers (SETs) performed in 16,579 women aged 40-49 years old between 2019 and 2023. The researchers compared the outcomes of mNC-ET and hormone replacement therapy embryo transfer (HRT-ET) cycles.

The study found that mNC-ET achieved live birth rates comparable to HRT-ET, with a lower risk of clinical miscarriage and a higher ongoing pregnancy rate. Subgroup analyses indicated that mNC-ET was associated with a lower risk of clinical miscarriage and a higher likelihood of live birth among autologous cycles.

The researchers also found that mNC-ET was associated with a reduced risk of clinical miscarriage in donor oocyte cycles, and comparable live birth rates.

The study's findings suggest that mNC-ET is a viable alternative to HRT-ET for women over 40, and that it may offer several benefits, including a lower risk of miscarriage and a higher ongoing pregnancy rate.

However, the researchers note that further research is needed to confirm the impact of mNC-ET on reproductive outcomes and to evaluate its potential obstetric benefits in this population.

## Modified Natural Cycle Fertility Treatment

Modified natural cycle embryo transfer is a type of fertility treatment that involves preparing the uterus for embryo transfer without the use of hormone replacement therapy. Instead, the body's natural hormonal cycles are used to prepare the uterus for implantation.

## Benefits of Modified Natural Cycle Fertility Treatment

The study's findings suggest that mNC-ET may offer several benefits for women over 40, including:

- Lower risk of clinical miscarriage - Higher ongoing pregnancy rate - Comparable live birth rates to HRT-ET

## Limitations of the Study

While the study's findings are promising, the researchers note that further research is needed to confirm the impact of mNC-ET on reproductive outcomes and to evaluate its potential obstetric benefits in this population.

## Future Research Directions

Future research should focus on confirming the impact of mNC-ET on reproductive outcomes and evaluating its potential obstetric benefits in women over 40. This may involve larger-scale studies and more in-depth analysis of the treatment's effects on pregnancy outcomes and obstetric complications.
