Annie Andrews Runs for Senate
Pediatric hospitalist Annie Andrews is running for a U.S. Senate seat in South Carolina, with a focus on healthcare issues

Annie Andrews, a pediatric hospitalist, is running as a Democrat for a U.S. Senate seat in South Carolina. According to MedPage Today, Andrews has made it a priority to address healthcare issues, including the spread of disinformation about vaccines by Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
Andrews believes that the changes championed by Kennedy have nothing to do with the evolution of science or evidence when it comes to routine childhood immunizations, but rather inject distrust and disinformation into the American public health infrastructure. Andrews has seen firsthand the ramifications of Kennedy's disinformation campaign, including a measles outbreak in Spartanburg, South Carolina, with nearly 1,000 documented cases.
Healthcare Issues in South Carolina
Andrews has been crisscrossing the state, talking to voters about their concerns regarding access to healthcare. Many areas in South Carolina lack primary care physicians, mental healthcare providers, or ob/gyns, forcing people to cross county lines to seek emergency care services. The impending Medicaid budget cuts have also led to the closure of rural health clinics.
Concerns About Providers
Andrews is concerned about the administrative burden on healthcare providers, which takes away from the time they can spend with patients. She believes that the system is not working for providers or patients and that there is a need for leaders to have serious conversations about shifting from a profit-motivated healthcare system to a patient-centered one.
Legislative Fixes
Andrews supports a legislative fix for prior authorization, which she believes is wildly frustrating for physicians. She does not think that insurance companies should be telling doctors what medications or treatments their patients need. Andrews also believes that healthcare is a human right and supports a public option, which would eliminate the profit motive in healthcare transactions.
Andrews' background in medicine, including her experience as a pediatric hospitalist and her Master's degree in clinical research, has prepared her to address healthcare issues in the Senate. She is board certified in both pediatric and pediatric hospital medicine and has practiced clinically for over 20 years. Andrews' campaign is focused on putting a stop to Kennedy's disinformation campaign and fully funding the CDC and NIH to continue medical research and innovation.
